Creating Design Community at UT
Getting chosen as a Figma Campus Ambassador was such an exciting opportunity because I've seen too many talented people get intimidated by design tools before they even give them a shot. Figma completely changed how I approach design and collaboration, and I wanted to help other students have that same experience. Plus, there's something really cool about creating spaces where people can just experiment, mess up, and learn together without the pressure of a grade hanging over their heads.
Figma Make with Matcha!
So apparently all you need for a killer turnout is free matcha and blind boxes, who knew? 🍵 We threw "Figma Make with Matcha" as our first event this year, and honestly, we were shocked when we hit 90 sign-ups in just 3 days. The concept was simple: teach students how to use Figma Make to integrate AI into their designs, then let them loose in a friendly competition for Smiski and Sonny Angel blind boxes. Oh, and everyone got free matcha and boba while they worked because, priorities.
The best part wasn't just the turnout, it was watching people actually get it. You could see the moment when someone figured out how to use AI to speed up their workflow without losing their creative vision. People were bouncing ideas off each other, showing off their projects, and genuinely having fun while learning something new.
